Do It For Johnny!

You may wonder why I didn't write to the blog for such a longtime, well my idiot of a country's silliest court decided to ban blogger because some blogs make copyrights infringement. Anywho, all is past now and I'm baaaaaaccccccccckkkkk!

Bloguma kavuştum mu nedir, içimde bir sevinç, bir sevinç... Gerçi araya sansürler, dijiler girdi soğudum ama, ısınırım zağar dedim oturdum yazmaya.  

I watched 'Do it For Johnny' yesterday and I must say that it was the most entertaining, funniest film I watched for a long time. The film is a documentary of a couple of young indie filmmaker wannabes trying to reach Johnny Depp a script!


'Do it For Johnny!'yi dün izledim ve şunu söylemeliyim ki uzun zamandır izlediğim en eğlenceli, en ilginç belgesel ve filmdi. Filmimiz, tamamen bağımsız yani çulsuz sinemacı adayı bir grup gencin senaryolarını Johnny Depp'e ulaştırmaya çalışmalarını anlatan bir belgesel!

Great idea, isn't it? The film is also great, first the gang buys a torn away van (all the money comes from the director's fiancee's credit cards!) then they made Scott Baxendale do a special guitar for Johnny, put their script in the back of the guitar and go on a crazy road trip across U.S.A. It's known that Johnny is a sweet man out of complexes who respects indies, and a musician, plus the film is a biopic of Scott Baxendale's life, so they thought that if Johnny sees the script all will be well.


Süper fikir değil mi? Film de süper zaten, arkadaşlar önce bir kırık dökük karavan alıyorlar (para yönetmenin nişanlısının kredi kartlarından çıkıyor!) sonra Johnny için Scott Baxendale tarafından özel yaptırdıkları gitarın arkasına yapıştırdıkları senaryolarıyla düşüyorlar Amerika yollarına. Johnny bağımsız sinemaya saygı duyan kompleksiz bir adam malum, bir de müzisyen, zaten film de Scott Baxendale'in biyografisi, dolayısıyla düşünüyorlar ki "Johnny'e bunu bir versek tamamdır".

But how? First, as you may know, our little Johnny lives with her Vanessa Paradis and the children in the South of France and he's about to shoot 'The Pirates of Caribbean' 2 and 3. And of course Johnny is pretty hard to meet... They said that we can either reach Johnny from the company that represents him our the company he and his sister owns or through Robert Rodriguez. But, Rodriguez isn't a guy who hangs out in Starbucks on Sunset Boulevard either, he is indie all right, but a pretty known indie.

İyi de nasıl? Bir kere Johnny malum Vanessa Paradis ve çocuklarıyla Güney Fransa'da yaşıyor, bir de filmin çekildiği sırada 'Karayip Korsanları' 2 ve 3 çekilmek üzere. Bir de tabii Johnny epeyce ulaşılmaz bir adam... Diyorlar ki, Johnny'e biz ya onu temsil eden şirketten ulaşırız, ya kızkardeşiyle kurdukları şirketten, ya da bize etse etse Robert Rodriguez yardım eder. Lakin Robert Rodriguez de Sunset Boulevard'a elinde Starbucks kahvesi gezmiyor malum, bağımsız filan ama kelli felli adam oldu.

What happens, you say... 2,5 years and thousands of kilometers later, they finally found Johnny somewhere and gave him the guitar. Johnny is being his sweet sympathetic self as always, but he simply cannot accept a script that doesn't come from his agency. He told them to send it to the agency and that he'll tell them to accept it. The script is sent and the sister is talked with, but a year later, the script still doesn't reach Johnny. And the agency wrote a review about how a masterpiece the script is and how well the characters are and blah and blah and blah...


Sonuç derseniz, 2,5 yıl ve binlerce kilometre yol sonra, Johnny'i bir yerde yakalayıp gitarı eline veriyorlar. Johnny çok sempatik çok tatlı, amma, diyor ki ben ajansımdan gelmeyen hiç bir senaryoyu kabul edemiyorum, siz ajansı arayın ben onlara söylerim kabul ederler. Ajansa yolluyorlar, sonra kız kardeşiyle konuşuyorlar yine aradan geçiyor bir yıl, peki senaryo Johnny'e geçiyor mu? Hayır. Hem de ajans senaryo için başyapıt, şöyle güzel böyle inanılmaz diye rapor yazdığı halde.

At the end, the gang gives away on reaching Johnny and finished the documentary, in fact Johnny already hears somethings about the gang before he met them, but with Tim Burton and Disney in line, our gang doesn't stand a chance. If you ask what this experiment tells about indies, being outrageous is good and well but it cannot compete with a million dollars that big studios offer...


Sonunda ekip Johnny'e ulaşmaktan vazgeçip belgeseli bitiriyorlar, aslında daha gitar Johnny'e gelmeden Johnny'nin bundan az-çok haberi var ama Tim Burton, Disney dururken bizimkilere sıra gelmiyor işte. Bu filmden bağımsız filme dair ne çıkar derseniz, yırtık olmak iyidir güzeldir ama, o bile büyük stüdyoların vereceği 100.000.000 dolarla yarışamıyor diyorum.




By the way, the film's opening sequence is the best!
